Worms glorious worms!
Worms are amazing decomposers. However, there are many different types of worms and they do not all do the same job. If you are going to put worms into your compost bin or have a worm bin the best worms are surface feeders called Eisena foetida but most people call them red wigglers. These worms love to eat fresh organic matter and they can eat over half their weight in food everyday.
Here are some fun facts about red wigglers
- They have 5 pairs of hearts
- No eyes
- No teeth
- They breath through their skin
- They are very sensitive to light
- Need moist surroundings
